DOT plans safety improvements for Carlton Ave./Park Place intersection

As a result of study requested by PHNDC in conjunction with the North Flatbush BID, Brooklyn DOT is planning safety improvements to the intersection of Flatbush Avenue, Carlton Avenue, and Park Place. The intersection has long been perceived by area residents as dangerous for pedestrians.

Apply for New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods Grant Awards

Citizens Committee for New York City is a not-for-profit organization that supports grassroots groups across the city in their efforts to build stronger communities. Twice a year, it awards grants of $500 to $3,000 to community groups in economically under-resourced neighborhoods to work on community improvement projects.

"No Flyers" sign helps keep your stoop or doorway clean

The Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council has created a sign to discourage the distribution of unwanted flyers and menus. The sign can be affixed to a door or attached to a fence.

City Council Members Albert Vann, Lettitia James, and Bill deBlasio will introduce a Resolution at the City Council Meeting on June 25th calling on the Mayor to halt the Department of Homeless Service's plan to close the Manhattan central intake center for homeless men and transfer its functions to the Brooklyn Bedford-Atlantic Armory.

Prior to the meeting, at 12:00PM on June 25th, a press conference will held on the steps of City Hall with advocates, homeless persons, service providers, community residents and elected officials. The City Council meeting follows the rally at 1:30PM, and is open to the public. Although there are no opportunities for the public to speak at the meeting, it is a great chance to show all of the City Council the level of community opposition to this plan.

State and City elected officials, civic groups launch campaign to reform Atlantic Yards governance

A coalition of Brooklyn elected officials and civic groups today gathered on the steps of City Hall in Manhattan today to launch the “Campaign to Reform Atlantic Yards,” an initiative to pass new legislation that would reform the governance of the Atlantic Yards project.

NYC to move intake center for all homeless men to Bedford-Atlantic Armory

Despite the City's own data that shows that 60% of all homeless individuals currently live in Manhattan, the Mayor announced last week a plan to move the City's intake center for all single men from its current location on First Avenue and 28th Street in Manhattan to the Bedford-Atlantic Armory Shelter in Crown Heights North, Brooklyn.
