The New York City Department of Transportation recently installed a traffic signal and pedestrian crossing signals at the intersection of Park Place and Carlton Avenue. The intersection had long been considered dangerous by pedestrians due to the propensity of cars turning on to Carlton from Flatbush Avenue to roll through the stop sign at Park Place, and also due to the lack of a crosswalk across Park Place east of Carlton Avenue. The latter crossing is frequently used by people headed for the B and Q subway entrance.
Next Wednesday, November 30th, the City Council's Committees on Public Safety and Sanitation and Solid Waste Management will be holding a joint oversight hearing on the borough-based snow plans and citywide winter emergency protocols issued by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), respectively.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the 14th Floor Committee Room at 250 Broadway in Lower Manhattan. If you would like to testify, please be sure to register with the sergeant-of-arms on the 14th Floor.

Community Board 8 is seeking public comments on the proposal to reduce street cleaning days throughout the District. Currently, the Dept. of Sanitation cleans the street 4 times a week, and the reduction would scale the cleaning to twice a week.
Your input is needed. Verbal testimony will be limited to 3 minutes per person; written testimony can also be submitted to the Board. This is just one part of an extensive process to have ASP regulations in the District reduced.
As this is something that will affect many things in the District, including utility service delivery and snow removal during winter months, it is imperative that we receive feedback from those that will be directly affected: the residents of District 8. The item will be voted on at an upcoming Community Board 8 general meeting after review of all comments submitted, feedback from utility companies, and other information.

The New York City Department of Transportation has recently completed enhancements to street and bicycle networks around Grand Army Plaza, improving traffic and pedestrian safety and access around the plaza, and beautifying existing and new pedestrian islands. The Grand Army Plaza Coalition (GAPCo) is pleased to invite you to celebrate the recent enhancements to Grand Army Plaza on Wednesday, November 9 at 10:30AM, at the Bailey Fountain.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction will present an update on the reconstruction of Eastern Parkway from Washington Avenue to Grand Army Plaza.

On Tuesday, May 24, Forest City Ratner (FCR) announced permanent changes to be made to the roadway network beginning on or about July 24.
Fourth Avenue (between Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue only) will be converted to one-way southbound. Pacific Street (between Fourth Avenue and Flatbush Avenue only) will be reversed, changing from one-way westbound to one-way eastbound. To accommodate this change, a new traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Pacific Street and Flatbush Avenue, as will a new crosswalk across Flatbush Avenue. Vehicles will be able to make right or left turns onto Flatbush Avenue at this location. This block can be accessed from both northbound and southbound Fourth Avenue.
Fourth Avenue northbound traffic, including all commercial vehicles, can use Third Avenue via Atlantic Avenue to access Flatbush Avenue. Pacific Street will offer secondary access to Flatbush Avenue. No through truck traffic will be permitted on Pacific Street.
There will be a community forum to discuss the new traffic patterns on June 14 at 6:30pm at Brooklyn Borough Hall. There will be a presentation detailing the traffic changes and the public will have an opportunity to ask questions.
