Property Owners are “Rolling Up the Gates” for Fulton Street and Washington Avenue Storefront Stroll!
Pratt Area Community Council (PACC)’s Economic Development Department collaborates with Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association (WAPHA) and Heart of Brooklyn (HOB) to showcase approximately 25 available storefronts in Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Bedford Stuyvesant and Prospect Heights at the “Rolling Up the Gates” (RUG) Storefront Stroll on Saturday, February 25th.
Just as finding an apartment in New York City can be tricky, so too is locating the perfect retail space. “Each RUG Storefront Stroll is an exciting opportunity to combine our efforts with other organizations to assist local entrepreneurs by showcasing our community’s primary commercial corridors,” said PACC’s Director of Economic Development Dale Charles. The RUG Storefront Stroll will showcase vacant commercial spaces on Fulton Street, Bedford Avenue, Grand Avenue, Bergen Street, and Washington Avenue along two thriving corridors – Fulton Street between Flatbush and Bedford Avenues and Washington Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Eastern Parkway. These corridors are home to the Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance, Bed-Stuy Gateway BID and Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association (WAPHA).
In addition to simplifying entrepreneurs’ search for retail space while providing property owners with a means of cooperatively advertising their available commercial spaces, the event’ s program is designed to help attract new businesses to central Fulton Street and Washington Avenue. Ms. Charles states, “with each successful RUG Storefront Stroll, we also hope to help reduce the vacancy rates of participating organizations in our commercial corridors and to help create a local and thriving retail area that reminds neighborhood residents to shop local.” Dana Ottey, President of the Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association (WAPHA) and owner of AweDacity boutique agrees. Ms. Ottey states, “we are very excited to enhance business development along Washington Avenue. In keeping with the Shop Local campaign, we support local entrepreneurs and help attract prospective tenants to the emerging corridor.”
The free event will be held at the PACC office on 896-900 Fulton Street between Waverly and Washington Avenues and will begin at 9:00 A.M sharp with a welcome breakfast reception where numerous financial institutions and business resource organizations will enlighten entrepreneurs of the various business resources and services available to them. The breakfast reception is to be followed by a ride on “Molly the Trolley” for a guided tour of the available commercial spaces. At each of the available commercial spaces perspective tenants’ questions will be answered. Tour packets with a listing of available commercial spaces, maps and information on the advantages of owning a local business will be available only at the event.
