Chances are that you or someone whom you know has been affected by a man-made or natural disaster in some way. Sandy Hook, black outs, flooding, mini tornadoes are all in our recent memory. Maybe you wonder what you might have done differently.
In 2017, PHNDC formed an Emergency Disaster Management Committee (EDM) to initiate activities that would better prepare our neighborhood response to area-wide emergency disasters such as: flooding; power outages, hurricanes, extreme weather, etc. Our goal is to strengthen neighborhood resiliency in the face of disasters: our advance preparations, our response; our recovery. We hope to build awareness on disaster preparedness and bring public resources to the neighborhood as appropriate, and most of all, to increase our own knowledge of disaster preparedness and to find ways to ensure that Prospect Heights residents are not alone in the event of an emergency.
Follow the links below to learn about simple steps you can take to prepare yourself to better face an emergency:
Make a plan. Know what you and your family will do in an emergency.
Stay informed. Make sure you'll be able to stay in contact when disaster strikes.
Talk to your neighbors. We're all stronger when we work together.
Pack a "Go Bag". Be prepared with what you'll need in case you have to evacuate.
Shelter in place. Learn how to stay put and stay safe.
