December 14, 2017 - 7:00pm
Sponsored By:
Brooklyn Community Board 8
Location:
Concern for Independent Living
151 Rochester Avenue (between St. Marks and Prospect)
United States
Description:

At its December general meeting, Brooklyn Community Board 8 will vote on several items of potential interest to Prospect Heights residents:

A developer has made an application to increase the height of a new residential building at 805 Washington Avenue from 8 stories to 9 stories, in exchange for locating a supermarket at the ground floor under the New York City FRESH program. FRESH is intended to incentivize the creation of supermarkets in low-income neighborhoods that are food deserts. FRESH requires at least 3,000 square feet be used for the sale of “a general line of food products,” with at least 2,000 square feet used for the sale of perishable goods (produce, meat, dairy, frozen food). FRESH does not make any specific requirements as to the operator of the store, or the price level of the groceries sold.

Mekelberg's has applied for a license to offer beer, wine and liquor for on-premises consumption at 535 Carlton Avenue (corner of Dean Street). The business will also sell gourmet food items at the location. The Carlton Avenue location represents a new branch of a successful Clinton Hill business. The proposed closing hours are 2:00AM Sundary through Thursday, and 3:00AM Friday and Saturday.

The Community Board will also vote on recommending changes to the number of street cleaning days in the district (and therefore, the number of days on which alternate side parking regulations are in effect).
